Children’s Hygiene appointments at Brixworth Dental Practice are changing.
Oral health education is more important than ever with constantly rising levels of decay and gum disease in UK children.
Dental health professionals are at the forefront of the battle against poor oral health and here at Brixworth Dental we have always tried to promote a ‘Prevention is Better than Cure’ view of oral health. Our motto is Smile for a Lifetime and we believe teaching our children good habits from an early age is imperative to this.
We have therefore decided to extend the time allocated to our Children’s Hygiene appointments to allow us to not only treat the active gum disease but also demonstrate and teach the younger generations good daily habits to help them keep their smile healthy.
With the extra time we will be able to apply special ‘dye’ to the teeth to show where old and new plaque build up is and the areas that may be being missed during brushing. We can take photos of the mouth to show the effects poor hygiene may be having on their mouths. We can demonstrate good brushing techniques using the child’s own toothbrush and of course discuss diet and sugar intake to help reduce the chance of cavities.
All of this to help educate your child on the benefits of good diet and oral hygiene, and to help to stop the effects of gum disease and possible decay as soon as possible.
Dentists may prescribe a hygiene appointment for a child if they have any concerns although you can also request an appointment if you would like them to see a hygienist.
Children’s hygiene appointments will now be the same duration as our standard adult hygiene visits and have a charge of £53.50. Patients will also receive a goody bag to help them keep their smiles in excellent condition.
