Could you tell us a little bit about what tooth whitening is?
At the most basic level, tooth whitening is a procedure which lightens the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surfaces. Bleaching with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide is the most usual method of tooth whitening and would involve your dental team putting a rubber shield or a gel on your gums to protect them. They will then apply the whitening product to your teeth, using a specially made tray which fits into your mouth like a mouthguard. As the bleaching agent is broken down, oxygen then gets into the enamel on the teeth and the tooth colour is made lighter.
