At this appointment we want to understand what you want for your smile. We will discuss the options and establish the best course of treatment with you. We aim to answer all of your questions and we will at this stage provide fixed quotes and treatment plans for the options available to you.
At your free consultation we will provide you with your treatment plan and fixed price quote. We will discuss with you the various finance options available so that you can decide which one best suits your needs.
This is where Dr John Serrano-Davey assesses the anatomy and current issues with crowding, bite etc. to establish the best way forward for your treatment. It includes:
- Study Models/Ortho Finishing Models – We have models of your mouth made at the beginning and the end of treatment. This means we have a record of where we start and where we finish, allowing us to ensure we have achieved what we set out to do. It also allows John to study your case whilst you are not here.
- Colour Photos – These are another record of where we started and where we finished, again these are useful for John to have whilst you are not here as he can assess your profile. They are also supplied to you at the end of treatment so you can see the difference we have achieved together.
- OPG (Full Mouth/Jaw X-Ray) – This allows us to identify any anomalies which may not be visible inside the mouth such as wisdom teeth, unerupted dentition or lack of bone support. It also allows John to check your general oral health by showing tartar etc.
If you are having Invisalign the colour photographs of your profile, smile and mouth as well as study models are sent to Invisalign. These are matched to John’s prescription for you and a virtual model of your mouth and the projected results are presented in a ClinCheck video. We then invite you back to discuss and review the video so that you have a clear idea of what your teeth will look like at the end of treatment. John will discuss any changes etc. to you. This is the point at which we can definitively tell you how long the first stage of treatment is going to last. We then order the aligners.
For Invisalign you will generally attend every 8 weeks for a review appointment and more aligners. For fixed brackets you will generally attend every 3 -6 weeks for ‘retie’ appointments where John will begin to adjust the brace.
Having made an investment in your new smile it is important that you keep it that way, which is why you will need a retention programme. This will mean wearing your retainers every night for the first 6 months and gradually reducing the time on direction from John. Six months after finishing treatment you will need to see John again for a ‘Retention Review’, this is added reassurance for you to ensure you keep the teeth in their new position.
